The Great Maine Woods.

About this internet site:

This is a personal site. It has been created to describe places and activities in and around the Great Maine Woods. The site will include the discussion of issues and attitudes. We have them. However, that is not our major intent.

Rather it is to celebrate our love of the Great Maine Woods. We will endeavor to feature the recreational and vacation activities that we know about, especially the timeshare resorts.

The first timeshare resort will be the Evergreen Valley Resort and Inn in Stoneham.

About this page.

The webmaster has started this new web site with the title "The Great Maine Woods." This is a very important subject to the writer. It is something that he wants very much to promote. Is he qualified to write on this subject? No, not really. The writer does not have strong academic training. He does not like to research a subject. He is rapidly losing his memory. He is becoming slightly bitter in his old age. He is becoming an angry old man. The writer has opinions and attitudes and he is seeking an outlet for what he wishes to say.

The webmaster is a Maine tourist. He lives in Maine and he desires to vacation in Maine and does. The writer cannot afford to own a cottage or second home in Maine so he has collected a chain of single week time-share properties throughout Maine. They are all off-season weeks so they were priced to sell in the second market, not in the original market at the original price.

On March 17th when this page was drafted, we were not in the Great Maine Woods. We were at the center of the Great Maine Coast. We were at the Samoset Resort in Rockport. We were pre-season. Spring was four days away. The snow was rapidly melting and revealing the lost golf balls, seven yesterday, that we collected. Two last Saturday and a broken golf club shaft. It made an excellent walking stick. We do like to hike and we cannot hike on the course during golf season.

We did not bring golf clubs. My own have been in storage for thirty years, but someday, we may resume. Forgive me, I am rambling.

We do not separate Maine into two regions. To us it is one state and the problems of one region are the problems of the whole. But enough of politics. We are not a legislator, nor will we ever be. We have too many skeletons in our closet to even reach first base. We also do not have the energy for that type of life.

Our subject, The Great Maine Woods, was the subject of a speech recently in the Androscoggin Valley about the tourism industry in Northern and Western Maine. The Bethel Citizen newspaper article about the speech was the one that I saw and is presented at this link. Please return to our page after reading this very excellent article.

Yes, we are an Emerald Necklace of natural beauty and wonderful and varied tourist activities. We maintain an amenity notebook of brochures, clippings, and maps for each time-share region. These notebooks are our response to another gross grievous comment in the Portland newspaper many years ago to the effect that there was no night life in Maine. Thus my amenity notebooks loaded with things to do. And this will be the subject of our web site. Along with some attitude.

Attitudes, we have them.
